Several projects over recent years have expanded the facility's capabilities in serving the needs of the Tawas Area community.
A 6,500 square foot addition was completed in 2012, fulfilling a plan to make the Iosco County Medical Care Facility 100% private beds. The addition includes nine (9) private rooms, a day room and associated support spaces. The rooms contain their own private lavatory / toilet / shower room. One private room was enlarged to accommodate a sleeper sofa thus allowing family members to stay overnight. A special feature of the project was the renovation of four existing semi-private rooms into two 2-room suites which allows married couples to stay together in one room while having adjacent living room space.
Prior to the expansion of the main structure, a new 10 Bed Free-Standing Long Term Care Unit was designed and constructed. The building incorporated the green house concept and provides private resident rooms, an open kitchen, dining and great room with fireplace, screened patio and many comforts of a home environment.
A dining room addition provided space for increased seating and a buffet style serving counter. Work on this project included an outdoor patio with expanded garden and a water feature.
