Client | City of Midland

Midland, Michigan

Completion Date | 2014/2018

PROJECT INFORMATION

WTA Architects assisted with the restoration of this 1954 Mid-Century Modern, Alden B. Dow designed library. Architectural improvements included a fresh new lobby design intended to create a clean and inviting space while allowing interaction with the library.

Great care was taken in the restoration of existing finishes throughout the library, as well as adding a revived color scheme of new carpet, counters, furniture, signage and paint.

Toilet rooms were modernized and expanded to include high efficiency fixtures. Acoustical  issues were addressed and energy efficient LED lighting was added. Finally, exterior  windows and doors were replaced with units that reflected the original design and improved thermal comfort and efficiency.

Rehabilitation to the building's exterior was also addressed by the team.

In 2018 a complete renovation of the lower level youth space was completed following a major flood that caused significant damage to this area. With much support from the community the library was able to rehabilitate the area and bring it back to life serving the children and teens in the area better than ever.
