Project Description
A $68 million bond program for the district included numerous projects comprised of additions and renovations, included 1,000,000 s.f. of renovated
space and 33,500 s.f. feet of new throughout the district.
The Central High School project included 221,000 s.f. of remodeling and 10,000 s.f. of new construction was completed in September of 2009 at a total cost of $18 million.
The project incorporated sustainable design practices as practical cost savings, energy conservation and teaching tools. Similar work was also completed on the district’s historic Western High School.
An in-depth study and master plan of Central High School resulted in an extensive rehabilitation/restoration project. Constructed in 1922, the facility had numerous additions and medications over the years. Exterior rehabilitation included $2 million in masonry restoration, new historically correct energy efficient windows and entrances. Interior rehabilitation and renovation included new energy efficient HVAC, upgraded electrical with energy efficient lighting and new science facilities. All education spaces were renovated and upgraded with technology.
