Project Description
WTA Architects was selected to design the renovation of the Dow Gardens Welcome Center. The project aimed to meet the Gardens ever-evolving needs, while preserving the history and integrity of the unique mid-century modern Alden B. Dow designed-structures.
Our involvement includes, programming, conceptual site and building development, renderings, and estimating services through the schematic design phase.
A striking new front facade, parking lot layout and entryway will enhance initial visibility and provide an enjoyable experience for arrival, parking, and wayfinding. Upon entry, guests will be treated with an enhanced visitor flow for ticketing and garden entry. This design accommodates for the occurrence of sudden influx from group arrivals. The new design also accounts for the expectation for upward trends in visitor numbers in the future.
The updated designs will nearly triple the square footage of the existing building. Additional areas that were redesigned include a gift shop, a spacious cafe, restroom facilities. office space, conference room, classrooms, educational areas, and multiple courtyard sitting areas.
