Saginaw Bay / Bay City State Park Visitor's Center

Bay City, MI, USA

Project Description

WTA provided Architectural design services to update and renovate the facility, including both interior and exterior work. The existing facility was last updated in the mid-1990s and needed renovation.

Interior renovations were designed to enhance the visitor experience, with updates to entry and lobby spaces. A key focus was a new interactive classroom space to facilitate hands-on lessons for elementary age school groups. Designed with flexibility in mind, the space provides a setting for students to “get their hands dirty” through practical hands-on lessons. The space also includes custom casework to house aquarium and terrarium displays as part of the teaching tools.

Work also includes a complete renovation of the main exhibit space, providing new interpretive displays and areas. The guiding vision was for these areas to serve as props for teaching and active learning demonstrations, for both school-age groups and the general public. WTA worked in conjunction with Split-Rock Studios for design, fabrication, and installation of the new exhibits.

Exterior updates encompass a new metal roofing system, siding replacement, and overall envelope enhancements.
