Project Description
WTA has undertaken the Adaptive Reuse project for the former “Walker Furniture” store in St. Ignace, Michigan. The renovation aims to transform the space, providing a functional environment to showcase and preserve the organization’s iconic pieces depicting the history of the Straits area.
The revitalized space will boast a public entry with a welcoming area, information and ticketing to the right, and a museum gift shop to the left. Designed with a circular flow, visitors will seamlessly navigate through the museum, entering the gift shop as they conclude their museum exploration.
The comprehensive redesign includes new amenities such as toilet rooms, a theater, an elevator, expanded exhibit space, storage, offices, and a versatile program/multi-use area. The exterior updates encompass window replacements and overall envelope enhancements.
In collaboration with our partner consultants at Split-Rock Studios, WTA has intricately designed, fabricated, and installed a comprehensive yet flexible exhibit space, ensuring a seamless integration of history and innovation in the heart of St. Ignace.
