Project Description

WTA was honored to lead this historic renovation of the former Saginaw News building, transforming it into a mixed-use facility. Throughout the renovation, great care was taken to preserve and honor the historic nature of the building.

The adaptive reuse design incorporates a multifaceted food hub and processing center, a 37-stall indoor farmers market, a food court with a commercial kitchen, 24 “mini retail” booths, various retail spaces, large commercial areas for lease, and a lounge and ballroom on the third floor. Outside the building, a pavilion was crafted to accommodate 48 vendor stalls for the Saginaw Farmers Market.

WTA’s meticulous approach ensured the preservation of the historical building’s integrity while introducing clean, efficient, and engaging new spaces. This included thoughtful considerations for visitor flow, redesigned entrances, and updated finishes throughout the building.

The remarkable preservation efforts were awarded for Outstanding Building Preservation by the Michigan Historic Preservation Network to acknowledge the project’s success in honoring the building’s original heritage.
