Project Description
The Wilson State Park Beach House was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corp between 1939 and 1941, and is located on the north end of Budd Lake in Harrison, Michigan. The historic log and stone structure offers beautiful views of the lake and access to its sand beach. The Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an historic district, and the Beach House structure is a major contributing feature.
The structure had suffered from significant deterioration over the years and was in poor condition, prompting a comprehensive condition assessment and design study addressing building conditions and possible future re-use options. The historic nature of the structure required sensitivity and adherence to guidelines for historic preservation.
Renovations included complete replacement of the wood shingle roof and underlying roof repairs, repairs to existing log work, historic window repairs, and re-construction of roof and wall framing for changing room additions. Future renovation plans include renovation of the existing toilet rooms and development of changing room areas for public and community functions.
